AUSTIN, Texas -- No.
Joe Allen Wales Jersey . 6 Kansas was rolling. The Jayhawks had won seven consecutive games to move to the top of the Big 12. They looked ready to cruise to another league title. So much for that idea. One trip down to No. 25 Texas showed the conference race is far from over. Wayne Selden Jr. scored 21 points, but Kansas struggled for much of an 81-69 loss to the Longhorns on Saturday. Isaiah Taylor scored 23 points and Jonathan Holmes had 22 as Texas earned its sixth consecutive win and pulled within a game of Kansas about halfway through the Big 12 schedule. "It was pretty much a dominating performance by the Longhorns over us today," Kansas coach Bill Self said. The Longhorns (17-4, 6-2), who lost their top four scorers from a 16-18 squad a year ago, have been the surprise of the Big 12 this season. Texas thumped the Jayhawks (16-5, 7-1) with suffocating defence that held the Big 12s best shooting team to 39 per cent from the floor. Kansas freshman Andrew Wiggins of Vaughan, Ont., who averaged 24 points over the previous three games, scored seven before fouling out late. The Longhorns outshot and outrebounded the Jayhawks, had 12 blocks, and once they built a double-digit lead, never left Kansas an opening to rally. "We didnt come with a lot of energy tonight. That was the result," Jayhawks forward Perry Ellis said. Taylor, a freshman guard who scored 27 a week earlier against Baylor, continued to slash his way through the Jayhawks for layups and floating jumpers, while Holmes hit from inside and outside. Holmes also went 9 for 10 from the free-throw line. Cameron Ridley added nine points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for Texas, winning his battle under the basket with Joel Embiid, Kansas 7-foot centre. Prince Ibeh also had four blocks. "We know its a long season," Selden said. "Well get back to Lawrence, regroup." The first half was pure frustration for the Jayhawks, who came in shooting 51 per cent as a team. Nothing, not even the open shots, seemed to find their way in the basket. Texas zone defence held the Jayhawks to 8-of-31 shooting in the half. Taylor and Holmes each scored 11 points and Ridley used his powerful ....... to push around the slender Embiid. When Holmes blocked a shot, grabbed the loose ball and raced up the court for a layup, the Jayhawks Frank Mason met him at the basket with a hard foul and the two players had to be separated. Kansas Brannen Greene was then whistled for a technical foul. Holmes made three of four free throws and Texas led 38-23 at halftime. Texas blew it open early in the second half with an emphatic basket by Ridley: a one-step, two-handed dunk over Embiid. Ridley converted the three-point play and Texas led 47-27. Kansas finally answered with consecutive 3-pointers but the Jayhawks couldnt piece together a run that could pull them close. Texas simply wouldnt let them. Holmes had a key 3-pointer and followed it with another tough layup. Demarcus Holland had the task of guarding Wiggins most of the game and despite giving up six inches, did a masterful job of frustrating the freshman into a rough shooting night. Wiggins fouled out with just over two minutes left, ending a 2-for-12 performance from the field. Holland also grabbed a team-high 11 rebonds. "I tried to box him out every opportunity," Holland said. "Cam and Prince were scaring him and he was settling for jump shots."
Aaron Ramsey Wales Jersey . -- Southern Illinois coach Barry Hinson couldnt hear himself amid the roar in Koch Arena, so he kept stomping on the floor in a fruitless attempt to get his teams attention.

Lon Krugers Sooners come into this contest with wins in four of the last five games, with the lone loss coming against nationally-ranked Washington (69-67) on Dec. 20. OU was able to get some distance from the setback with an 85-51 rout of Weber State just two days later. A poor start to the season had George Mason buried at 2-6, but the Patriots have fought their way back to almost .500 with their current three-game win streak. The Patriots were last in action on Dec. 23, earning a 68-60 win at Wright State. Oklahoma won the only previous matchup with George Mason, an 81-66 decision in Washington, D.C. last season as part of the BB&T Classic. The Raiders came into their matchup with the Patriots red-hot, sporting a flawless home record and a four-game win streak overall. However, George Mason ended both streaks and picked up its first road win of the season in the process. The Patriots were paced by junior center Shevon Thompson and freshman guard Isaiah Jackson. Thompson knocked down 9-of-11 shots from the field and recorded a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Jackson was 7-of-11 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line, finishing with a career- high 22 points. Marko Gujanicic chipped in 11 points off the bench for George Mason, which shot a sterling .520 from the floor in the contest. The Patriots are on a roll right now and are coming off a highly efficient performance lastt time out.
Ashley Williams Jersey. On the season, the numbers have been much more modest, as the team is averaging 68.8 ppg on .434 shooting. Patrick Holloway currently leads the team in scoring at 12.8 ppg. Thompson has been a force in the middle, averaging 12.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. Marquise Moore rounds out the top scoring options on the team with 10.9 ppg. Jacksons offensive eruption of late has not been the norm (6.3 ppg) and could really bolster this team over the second half of the season. Oklahoma dominated on both ends of the court in its lopsided victory over Weber State last time out. The Sooners jumped all over the Wildcats, shooting a scorching .688 from the floor in the first half and taking a 51-12 lead into halftime, effectively putting the game out of reach. OU really abused Weber State inside, outscoring its foe 54-8 in the paint. Five Sooners finished with double-digit point totals in the win, led by Ryan Spangler and Jordan Woodard with 15 points apiece. TaShawn Thomas added 13 points, while Buddy Hield and Dinjiyi Walker chipped in with 10 each. Oklahoma is a dangerous team, especially on the offensive end, where the Sooners are averaging 75.2 ppg, on a healthy .452 shooting. Scoring depth comes as four of the teams five starters are sporting double-digit scoring averages. Hield tops the team with his 15.5 ppg. Isaiah Cousins ranks second on the team with 13.2 ppg, followed by Thomas and Spangler, who net 10.9 and 10.5 ppg, respectively. Spangler, a 6-8 forward has been extremely efficient, shooting at a .618 clip, while also leading the team in rebounding (8.8 rpg).
