MIAMI -- Nathan Eovaldi receives lousy run support when hes on the mound. Custom Coyotes Jersey . On Tuesday, the Miami Marlins gave him some help after he left the game. Maybe the Marlins really are improved. Eovaldi pitched six innings and Miami made the most of five hits to beat the Colorado Rockies for the second night in a row, 4-3. The Marlins 2-0 start is a big change from last year, when they began 14-41 en route to a 100-loss season. "Its all in the past," Eovaldi said. "Its a completely different team." Eovaldi has endured the worst run support in the majors since 2011, but the Marlins went ahead to stay after he came out of the game, scoring two runs in the sixth. Miamis bullpen did the rest. A.J. Ramos struck out Nolan Arenado with runners at the corners to end the eighth, protecting a one-run lead. Steve Cishek converted his 30th consecutive save opportunity and first of the year by pitching a perfect ninth. "That shows how were going to play," Ramos said. "Were going to score runs, and when we do get the lead, were going to hold it. Weve got guys in the bullpen that can come in after anybody and clean up a situation. Its reassuring, and it shows everybody that we are a totally different team this year." For the Rockies, the 0-2 start seems like more of the same after they finished last in the NL West in 2013. "We didnt get the big hit late," manager Walt Weiss said. "Bottom line is we have to find a way to tie that game or take the lead." Miamis rotation -- the youngest in the majors -- stifled the Rockies for the second game in a row. Eovaldi (1-0) allowed two runs and struck out six after Jose Fernandez limited Colorado to one run in the season opener. Eovaldi gave up six hits, walked one and reached 99 mph on the radar gun. The crowd of 15,906 made for a more subdued atmosphere than Mondays opener, which Miami won 10-1. Newcomer Casey McGehee singled home the Marlins final run and has five RBIs in the first two games. The Marlins had a hit in only two innings, but through two games theyre batting .526 (10 for 19) with runners in scoring position. Giancarlo Stanton made several nice catches in right field, and Jeff Bakers hard slide broke up a potential double play to keep the Marlins sixth-inning rally going. "Were playing the right way," manager Mike Redmond said. "Guys are getting after it." Redmond came onto the field to question a call on a close play at first base in the fifth inning, but his conversation with umpire Mike DiMuro was polite. After receiving a signal from his staff that the ruling was correct, Redmond told DiMuro he didnt want a video review. "I said, Hey, you got it. Im out of here," Redmond said. Regarding the new replay system, he said: "Its more peaceful." Brett Anderson (0-1) pitched six innings and allowed four runs, three earned. It was the left-handers first start with the Rockies after he was acquired in a trade with Oakland in December. Miami went ahead for good in Andersons final inning. Reed Johnson pinch-hit for Eovaldi and led off with a double. He advanced on a groundout and scored when Stanton hit into a forceout. Stanton advanced on a throwing error by second baseman D.J. LeMahieu, stole third and scored on McGehees two-out single. NOTES: Colorados Troy Tulowitzki went into the ..................... at shortstop to rob Marcell Ozuna of a hit on a grounder in the fifth. ... Rockies RHP Jordan Lyles will be activated to start Wednesday in place of RHP Tyler Chatwood, who is out with a left hamstring strain. RHP Henderson Alvarez will make his first start for the Marlins since throwing a no-hitter on the final day of the 2013 regular season. ... LHP Franklin Morales will start Thursday at Miami for the Rockies, and RHP Juan Nicasio will start their home opener Friday against Arizona. Brad Richardson Jersey . MacIntyre stopped 49 shots and the Marlies defeated the Texas Stars 5-1 in Game 1 of the American Hockey Leagues Western Conference final. "I felt in control, so that was nice," MacIntyre said. Mike Smith Jersey . But unfortunately for the Niagara Falls, Ont., native, a pulled muscle wouldnt allow him to go past the second set. Japan sealed its victory over Canada in the first-round Davis Cup tie after Nishikori downed an ailing Dancevic 6-2, 1-0. http://www.officialcoyoteshockey.com/Mike-Smith-Jersey/ .com) - In the absence of Dwight Howard, Donatas Motiejunas had a career night to keep the Houston Rockets winning streak alive.EDMONTON -- One thing the Saskatchewan Roughriders know -- the games will get harder from here. Their first game of the season couldnt have been much easier. Quarterback Darian Durant passed for three touchdowns as the Roughriders started off the CFL season in fine form, blasting the hapless Edmonton Eskimos 39-18 on Saturday afternoon. Saskatchewan is off to a 1-0 start in its quest to appear in the 101st Grey Cup in Regina. "We did some good things, a lot of good things," said Roughriders head coach Corey Chamblin. "We played well and we won, but we didnt play well for all four quarters and thats something we can still work on. We want to win all four quarters each and every game. We got our goal, which is to win on the road. Now we have to make sure we win all four quarters consistently on the road." Riders linebacker Renauld Williams also tried to keep the victory in perspective. "Its one game," said Williams, who closed out the first half with an interception return TD, his first since 2008. "We just want to get better play by play and week by week. Its a great start though. Especially on the road and especially in Edmonton because we have a history here." The Roughriders have not had much success at Edmontons Commonwealth Stadium over the years. Saskatchewan came into the game with just a 9-40 regular season record, including a six-game losing streak extending back to September 2009. The Eskimos, meanwhile, lost their first season-opener in three years under head coach Kavis Reed. "We did not execute very well," Reed said. "Penalties were our nemesis today. We did not tackle as well as we wanted. We lost the game in all three phases. "There are a lot of things that we have to look at. There are a lot of things we have to evaluate from top to bottom to make certain we get better." Saskatchewan scored five minutes in to the games opening drive as Kory Sheets took a handoff from Durant and scampered 19 yards for the touchdown and an early 7-0 lead. The Eskimos took a string of penalties that allowed the Riders to march downfield and make it 14-0, as Durant hit Taj Smith for a 13-yard TD pass with a minute to play in the opening quarter. Saskatchewan added a punt single before Edmonton came back with a single point of their own on a missed field goal. The botched kick came shortly after the Eskimos finally had good field possession thanks to a 46-yard passing play to Fred Stamps. The Eskimos disastrous opening half concluded with an extremely poor play. Edmonton found itself deep in its own end with time expired and quarterbback Mike Reilly opted to pass instead of going down on a broken play. Shane Doan Jersey. Williams picked off the pass and ran it 19 yards into the end zone to put the Roughriders up 22-1 at half. "I think that was just a bad decision by their quarterback," Williams said. "Hell learn. He should have thrown the ball away. Even if he had completed it, you are probably not going to score. I was thinking Hes not going to throw this, but he threw it. Opportunities like that dont arise very often and you have to make the play when it is there like that. "He just has to make a better decision on that one." The Eskimos left the field at the half to a chorus of boos from their hometown fans. The Roughriders continued their assault to start the third quarter as a 36-yard passing play set up a three-yard TD toss from Durant to Chris Getzlaf to make it 29-1. Edmonton returner John White fumbled the ensuing kickoff at his own 30 and Sam Hurl was there to pounce on it. The latest in a series of Eskimos miscues set up a four-yard TD pass to Scott McHenry just over a minute after their first major of the half. The Eskimos finally got some earned points on the board when Grant Shaw kicked a 40-yard field goal to make it 36-4. Saskatchewan also conceded a safety to make it 36-6 at the end of the third. The Riders added a field goal before Edmonton saved a little face with a touchdown midway through the fourth as Stamps made a leaping catch for a 19-yard major to make it 39-12 after the missed two-point convert. Shaw added a pair of field goals in the final two minutes for the Eskimos. The Riders return home to face the Calgary Stampeders on Friday. The Eskimos travel to Hamilton to play the Ticats next Sunday. Notes: Saskatchewan finished third in the CFLs West Division last season with a record of 8-10, while Edmonton was fourth at 7-11. Both teams lost out in the semifinals as the Riders fell 36-30 to Calgary in the West and Edmonton crossed over and lost 42-26 to the Toronto Argos in the East... The Eskimos are one of the most inexperienced teams in the league with 18 players in their first or second year and an average of 2.5 years experience through their lineup. The Riders have an average of 3.5 years experience, tied for second behind B.C. with an average of four years... Star slotback Geroy Simon was unable to make his debut for Saskatchewan after suffering an injury in the Riders last pre-season game against Calgary. Simon, the leagues all-time leading receiver, was acquired from the B.C. Lions in the off-season... Stamps hit the 400 career receptions mark in the game.
