Liverpool have been handed a double defensive boost ahead of Wednesday night's Champions League clash with Spartak Moscow.

Joe Gomez and Ragnar Klavan are both back to full fitness, giving Jurgen Klopp fresh options in defence, after he was forced to use Emre Can and Gini Wijnaldum at the weekend.

However Joel Matip and Adam Lallana remain absent ahead of the Anfield clash, reports the Liverpool Echo .

Both Gomez and Klavan missed the 5-1 victory through illness – though the latter was named as substitute – but the duo returned to training on Monday.

Liverpool's other two absentees from the Amex Stadium, Matip and Lallana, remain out however as they continue to recover from their respective muscle injuries.

“They look better, much better,” Klopp said of Gomez and Klavan. “They were training yesterday, and I expect they will today. www-sbobetsc.com

“Ragnar and Joe are back, Joel and Adam Lallana not.”

The return of two defenders will be welcome news to Klopp, whose side need a point to guarantee qualification in the last 16, with a win ensuring top spot ahead of Sevilla.

But Lallana's injury – sustained after his initial comeback against Chelsea late November – will be a blow to the Reds.

On his setback, Klopp added: "No, Adam will not be in the squad for this game tomorrow, but he is on a very good way.

"That's what we thought actually the whole time, and we want to build him up with his fitness and all that stuff.

"He is keen, how you can imagine, but meanwhile he is old enough to know there are a lot of important years to come for him, a lot of important games to come for him, and it's not about coming somehow in the next one - it's about being best prepared for all the rest."
