It was Franzens eighth goal. Tatar got his second goal of the game on a 5-on-3 power play by putting in a loose puck from a goal-mouth scramble with 9:47 left in the middle period. It was Tatars fifth goal. The Red Wings Justin Abdelkader hit the post on a partial breakaway with 1:32 left in the first. Tatars first goal of the game opened the scoring with 9:43 left in the opening period on a one-time shot from the bottom of the left circle. Downies power-play goal tied it with 6:12 remaining in the first period. He beat Howard with a wrist shot from the inside edge of the right circle. It was Downies second goal.
